Thank you for your interest in my art and all things watercolor. I am Lana Quann, a self-taught watercolor artist. I returned to art in 2018 after 30 years when an unexpected job loss had me take stock of what was important and what I wanted to "be". My supportive husband, Eric, suggested I take a year off to figure things out. When I was younger, I was heavily involved with art. I have a BA in Art History and worked in a variety of mediums. I missed being "an artist" and started to teach myself complex and magical art of watercolor. Through many failed paintings, and never quite knowing what I was doing I persisted. Taking online courses, as well as book tutorials, I was hooked. Finding endless inspiration in nature, I was challenged with the medium, materials and how to capture the beauty I observe on a hike, drive or day out on the water. Watercolor has taught me to be resilient, to accept imperfections, to work harder and to be patient with the process. Watercolor has become my metaphor for life.
After a couple of years of working part time and selling art at craft fairs I created "The Wandering Brush". The Wandering Brush represents the playfulness, the experimentation and the observation of beauty and nature in a simple and fun expression that connects us. For over four years I have been a working artist, showing and selling my art at artisan markets, privately owned local shops, doing workshops and classes to teach my unique approach to watercolor. I sell, show and teach in a variety of towns in SouthCoast, Mass and DownEast, Maine.
I believe art should be for everyone, should be affordable and approachable. In addition to original work, I accept commissions for pet portraits, florals and landscapes.
